Relko go back in time at Avoncroft

2 April 2010

Relko Restoration and Masonry Ltd travelled in time when they were appointed to restore the Dr Who Tardis  Police Public call box at the Bromsgrove based Avoncroft Museum.

Relko were approached to inspect several concrete kiosks and to give their recommendations as to the sympathetic restoration needed.  This entailed careful low pressure blast cleaning to remove years of built up paint, followed by concrete repairs to damaged and cracked concrete and finally a coating of anti-carbonation paint to protect the concrete.  Avoncroft commissioned Relko to restore the concrete after vetting our experience as some kiosks are the only ones remaining and needed a professional, reliable and experienced contractor.

The National Telephone Kiosk collection opened at Avoncroft in 1994 with the aid of BT.  It includes working examples of every type of GPO and BT telephone kiosk from the 1920’s to the present day.
